Deck The Halls Deck The Halls

Deck The Halls is my first Jazz recording, and a result of my long time desire to arrange and record with a piano player. I came up with the idea for these kinds of arrangements when Fran and I were living in Italy and missing the holidays back home, and well, Italy loves jazz. Pianist Willie Myette co-produced this with me and did a tremendous job both with the arrangements and as music director for the sessions. He also encouraged me to put my original tune Glory, Sing Glory on the collection. (Thanks Willie!)

One of my favorite things about the music is the loose and inventive cymbal work throughout by drummer Marty Richardson - his touch is so natural and appropriate that if you're not careful, it slips right by you. When you listen for Marty Ballou's bass lines you'll understand why John Hammond Jr. recently took Marty to Europe to present his concert of Tom Waits songs. I think this will be around for a while . . . we got a lot of airplay around the holidays on NPR stations throughout the country.
